Description Of Item: Blue plastic hinged box 225 mm x 135 mm x 45 mm with press button catch with light green label imprinted in blue 'Boston Envision Diagnostic Lens Set/ Polymer Technology Corporation, Wilmington, MA 01887 affixed containing 14 lens cases 11 of which contain a single rigid lens in separate divisions. A white label imprinted with Boston Envision in blue and lens parameters in black is affixed to each case containing a lens. Parameters are: BC 7.3 mm to 8.3 mm in 0.1 mm steps, powers -2.75 D for all except 7.9 and 8.3 (both -3.00 D), Diameter 9.6 mm. The inside lid of the box has and embossed section with the words The Boston Lens and care instructions.'A Patient Care Guide' and 'Package Insert' leaflet printed in blue and a card regarding the fitting set are included. Historical Significance: Boston Envision lenses were manufactured in Boston EO a fluoro silicone acrylate material of Dk 58 and had a patented back surface design.Perry Rosenthal, ophthalmologist, Louis Mager, physicist and Joseph Salamone founded Polymer Technology in 1974 when they developed the first silicone acrylate rigid contact lens materials, the first commercial material being Boston IV. Solutions for care and maintenance of the material were developed. Polymer Technology was sold to Bausch and Lomb in 1983.
