Description Of Item: Black and white photograph, 126 x 90 mm, of the students enrolled in the BAppSc optometry course of the University of Melbourne in 1961. It is accompanied by a clipping from the newspaper of the Australian Optometric Association, Australian Optometry, published in 1999 with a reproduction of the photograph in sepia tones with a caption identifying the students.
Historical Significance: This was a remarkable group of students because so many of them pursued noteworthy careers in the profession or in academia. A measure of this is the number who received awards in the Order of Australia (plus one in New Zealand).
