Historical Significance: This is a text book on perimetry published at the time automated static perimetry was coming into vogue. It is an important source of the history of the development of perimetry. The first chapter briefly reviews the historical development of perimetry from the arc perimeter, through the Bjeruum screen to the Goldmann bowl perimeter. Later chapters give comprehensive accounts of the considerable number of automatic static perimeters developed in the 1970s from the Freidmann Visual Field Analyser through to the Octopus. There are excellent photographs of the instruments described.C. H. Bedwell was a visiting professor at the City University, London. He was a UK optometrist well known for being one of those optometisris whio pushed the boundaries of technology in optometry, although he has only 6 publications on PubMed and published only two books.
