Historical Significance: The author was a British dispensing optician and Fellow of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians. He also held a BSc degree. The book was written to succeed the older classical texts in the field, notably Sasieni's Spectacle fitting and optical dispensing (1950) (Cat # 777 and 2243) and its revised version Principles and practice of optical dispensing and fitting (1962). The book is a source of techniques of optical dispensing and styles of spectacle frames in the mid 20th century, which are generously illustrated. It covers British Standards for optical dispensing. pupillary distance measurement, frame measurements, frame styles and frame fitting.
