Gold stamped COLES AND GARRARD/MELBOURNE GEELONG on inner lip and blind stamped with trade mark W (for Wilmot). 140 x 55 mm. Historical Significance: Coles and Garrard Pty Ltd was the largest optometry firm in Melbourne from about 1920 until it was sold to OPSM in the 1990s and closed shortly afterwards. Earle Coles was the original proprietor. He was a member of the first Victorian Registration Board in 1936. It was sold to his employees in the 1950s. Snap spectacle cases were widely used from the 1930s to 1980s. How Acquired: Donated by Donald MacRaild.
