Historical Significance: The S.T.A.R. was developed by Robert Weinreg, Professor of Ophthalmology and Felipe Medeiros, Assistant Professor at the Hamilton Glaucoma Center, University of California, San Diego in 2006 to calculate the risk of an ocular hypertension patient to develop glaucome within five years based on the data from the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (2002) (OHTS) and a formula originally used to calculate cardiovascular disease risk (Framingham Heart Study).
