Historical Significance: This is the fourth edition of a well known text of the early 20th C written by Mayou, the first edition of which was published in 1908. The Museum holds the 2nd edition dated 1912. This edition is claimed to be revised and largely rewritten. The new authors were very well known London ophthalmologists. Marmaduke Stephen Mayou FRCS (1876-1934) was a leading ophthalmologist of his day. See his obituary BMJ 1934; 2(3838) 734.
