Description Of Item: Cardboard box with metal corner clasps, 135 x 60 x 25 mm, designated with name and address of Arthur Cocks and Co manufacturers and Distributors of Optical Goods and General Importers of 290a Little Collins St Melbourne
Historical Significance: Arthur Cocks and Co were well known optical wholesalers and manufacturers in Australia in the 20th C. It was founded in 1899 in Sydney by Sir Arthur Cocks (1862-1943), a prominent NSW politician and mayor of Sydney in 1913. He was active in the early formation of an optometry organization in NSW in 1904. The compnay ceased trading in the 1980s.
