Description Of Item: Leather and leatherette covered booklet, 120 x 204 mm, 6 pages each holding one of six different near vision cards including print in English, print in 7 different languages, symbols, music and a hand of playing cards. Each card is marked 'Copyright (date) Soft-Lite Company Inc' and 'Printed in USA'. The dates are 1937, 1940 and 1944. The front cover is gold stamped 'DR FREDERICK J. WAGNER / OPTOMETRIST'. Embossed on the inside of the front cover are the words 'Soft-Lite Lenses'
Historical Significance: Soft-Lite is a brand of pink tinted lenses first marketed by the Soft-Lite Lens Company, New York, in 1939. Bausch and Lomb made the lenses and also sold them. Dr Wagner (1915-2013) was an optometrist practising in the State of Massachusetts who is noteworthy for practising until 2009 when he was 92 years of age
