The well contains two baskets for holding the lenses. On/off button and three status lights. Switch on side for selection of cleaning program by lens type. Marked 'Sonasept TM' on top and SMC Technology Ltd Model No UD-218 on back together with warnings and information on power supply. Plastic forceps in clear plastic wrap and transformer in separate brown cardboard box. A4 size instruction leaflet with four folds, printed both sides. All contained in a colour printed box, 230 x 124 x 65 mm, labeled 'Sonasept Professional type ultrasonic contact lens cleaner SMC Model UD218 Patents pending' with specifications on one side. Historical Significance: The efficacy of the Sonasept unit was compared to three other contact lens disinfection units by Coulson JF et al Clin Exp Optom 1994; 77: 105-109 and was found to perform poorly. There was a letter written about this report by Michael Simpson in Clin Exp Optom 1994; 77: 4 and a reply from the authors.
