Description Of Item: Navy board covers with gilt embossed title, 188 pages plus 11 pages of book advertisements, 204 black and white illustrations mostly line drawings but some photographs including ones of a reception room with work bench, a work bench and dispensing machinery of the day. There are 17 chapters covering machinery, marking and cutting, drilling lenses, mounting, frame adjusting, surface grinding and repairs. Rubber stamp for Bruce Dudon (donor) on front pastedown.(We hold a another copy cat.no.322 in Aitken Collection)
Historical Significance: Walter Slade (1877-1920) is described on the title page a s being 'of the Globe Co Boston Mass.'. The first edition was published in 1909. There was a later posthumous edition in 1924
