Retinoscope marked 'COPELAND/ REFRACTASCOPE/ PAT. NO. 1,648,013/ DISTRIBUTED BY/ RIGGS OPTICAL COMPANY/ CHICAGO ILL.' Ophthalmoscope marked 'BAUSCH & LOMB/ OPT. CO./ USA/ MAY OPHTHALMOSCOPE/ US PAT. 2,080,844'. Refractoscope only displayed in Museum Gallery. Historical Significance: J C Copeland's patent 1648013 was granted on Nov 8 1927. The patent number 2080844 on the ophthalmoscope head refers to the battery handle and illumination system design which was granted on 18 May 1937 to Bausch & Lomb for Carl Wittig's design.
