Barrels covered in mother of pearl cut to form tiny blocks. Focussing knob of mother of pearl with applied brass acanthus leaf decoration. Eyepieces both impressed 'LEREBOURS PARIS'. Size: 97 x 46 x 30 mm. Historical Significance: Noel Jean Lerebours (1761-1840), optician to Emperor Napoleon, settled in 1789 at Quai de l'Horloge, Paris. His son was the famous daguerrotypist Noel Marie Paymal Lerebours (1807-1873) who took over the workshop from his father. After 1845 the firm was styled 'Lerebours & Secretan'.
