Historical Significance: PMMA lenses were available in a number of tints to facilitate handling. In most cases the default tint was tint 912, a light grey, but other colours may have been chosen to match or enhance the wearer's eye colour. On occasions a different colour may have been selected for each eye to identify right and left lenses rather than rely on engraved letters (R or L) or dots.Corneal Lens Corporation was registered by contact lens pioneer Penrhyn Thomas and Mate Ware in 1949 to manufacture scleral contact lenses. Research and development led to the a tricuve corneal lens and then to the Conoid and Clitan contact lens designs
