Description Of Item: Original yellow paper dust wrapper printed in red ink, original navy blue cloth covers, 225 x 145 mm, 350 pages, 16 black and white photographic plates, 44 black and white figures in text. Photograph of the twenty participants including Duke-Elder, Berens, Francois, Friedenwald, Kronfield and Vail. The book includes the discussion of the papers as well as the papers themselves.
Historical Significance: The symposium was held in September 1954 and was organised by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences established under the joint auspices of UNESCO and WHO. The symposium was held at a time of singular advance in the understanding of the glaucomas.
