Historical Significance: The author studied social anthropology at St Andrew's University and became a journalist in Hong Kong, working for five years as arts editor for the The South China Morning Post. She reports her discoveries about the sources and origins of pigments and dyes and efforts of artists and artisans to make colours in painting and the decorative arts. The book was a gift to Barry Cole from Ross and Marion Harris reflecting Ross and Barry's collaboration in research into colour blind artists and cricketers.
