Description Of Item: Plastic box 355mm x 220mm x 53mm, with blue base and clear, hinged lid with CIBA VISION CARE embossed in white in the bottom right-hand corner. Base has 21 recesses in a 7 x 3 configuration each designed to display a contact lens vial. Some recesses are labelled with a base curve and tint type. Separate recesses marked Right and Left designed to hold open vials and and a rectangular recess lens designed to hold forceps are below the 21 lens array. A folder in light card containing lens ordering data and parameter ranges and a business cardholder are on the left hand side of the 21 lens array. 18 vials containing trial lenses of + and - powers (predominantly 3.00D) which are tinted to provide examples of the transparent tint range are included in the set. Tints are Light: blue, green aqua and amber, Medium and dark: blue, green, aqua and violet. Lens designs are Cibasoft, Cibathin, Torisoft and Weicon covering all curves (2 or 3) and diameters (1 or 2) then available. A section of the vial label has been removed to allow the tinted lens to be seen more clearly.
Historical Significance: Transparent tints were available in Titmus Eurocon Weicon lenses from 1984 and introduced as Softcolours in Cibasoft lenses in 1988. A trial set of this type gave the practitioner samples of the full range of Ciba 38% Hema lenses available.
