Description Of Item: Two sealed screw top vials each containing a soft contact lens of tetrafilcon A with a light blue handling tint. Vial labels are white and grey with a coloured circumferential line separating the sections. The coloured line appears to be relevant to the lens base curve-8.9 green, 8.6 purple. Lens diameter is14.0mm, power -3.00. Expiry dates 6/89 and 8/89
Historical Significance: Tetrafilcon A was invented by Stanley Gordon, an American optometrist and contact lens practitioner and manufacturer in 1970. Gordon founded the Contact Lens Guild in 1958, which was re-named Gordon Contact Lenses in 1965. After the invention of tetrafilcon, Union Corps Optics Inc., a subsidiary of Union Corporation (An Airline and hotel company) bought Gordon Contact Lenses. Coopervision acquired UCO in 1983.
