Description Of Item: Four vials 42 mm high and 22 mm diameter each containing a clear soft contact lens. Parameters are labelled Sag I or Sag II with a plus and a minus lens in each Sag. Plus lenses have a prominent + sign on the label. Labels are Black and white with gold printing on the black mid-section. Exp. dates range from 2/89 to 11/90. Sag I plus lens has the original B & L crimped metal seal.
Historical Significance: Optima 38 was a daily wear lens of 61.4% HEMA and 38.4% water and preceded disposable soft contact lenses. Lens life was expected to be up to three years requiring the rigourous cleaning and disinfection regimes then available.
