Description Of Item: Small rimless oval lens pince-nez with gold chain and ear hook, gold spring bridge probably stamped Fits-U. flat lenses, almost plano, contained in metal snap case covered in black fabric and gold stamped P.H.SPARGO / GEELONG / REFRACTIONIST AND OPTICIAN
Historical Significance: The Optician, Percy Harold Spargo, practised in Ryrie Street Geelong Victoria for many years from the 1930s to the 1960s. He was among the first optometrists to be registered for the practice of optometry pursuant to the Optometrists Registration Act of 1935. He was registered on the basis of his prior experience in the practice of optometry under Section 8 of the Act.
