Description Of Item: Booklet, 145 x 210 mm, stiff card printed blue background with graphics and title, 44 pages, illustrated with black and white diagrams and photographs. Undated but known to be 1974. The author is not identified in the booklet. Another copy is Cat No 3582
Historical Significance: This is a public relations and student recruitment brochure produced by the Federal Office of the Australian Optometrical Association. It is the first edition. The second 1984 edition is held at Cat No 946, See Cat No 923 for other examples of PR and student recruitment material. It was written by Ian Bailey, although he is not identified as the author in the publication. It covers the structure of the eye, connecting the eye to the brain, the optical system of the eye, vision disorders, examination of the eye, correction of vision problems, the eye care professions, other eye care groups and care for your eyes. The photographic illustrations were taken in the Australian (the Victorian) College of Optometry and depict Ian Bailey in a number of the photographs. The author advises (July 2015) that this first edition was printed before he proofed the final copy and that there are numerous editorial errors.
