Historical Significance: Roger Sargent (1926-2002) was one of several New Zealanders who studied optometry at the Australian College of Optometry in its early years. He obtained his LOSc diploma from the College in 1950. The slipped-in article provides interesting information about the early years of optometry in New Zealand. Roger Sargent's father started the practice in 1921 having served in World War One (1914-1918) in the ophthalmic department of the NZ Army Medical Corps. He was one of the first optometrists to be registered when an optometry act was passed.
