Description Of Item: Colour illustrated paper wrappers, approx. A4 size, 30 pages, frontispiece of W. W. McQuilkin, President of Bausch and Lomb, 11 full page colour illustrations of significant figures in the history of optics and ophthalmic science and two of eyeglass vendors one of which was painted in 1864 by Hermann Sondermann. Opposite each picture is a page of informative text. At the end of the book are black and white photographs of Bausch and Lomb instruments and eye wear.
Historical Significance: This is a brand promotion brochure for Bausch and Lomb, of a kind and style not uncommon in the mid 20th C. The significant figures depicted are Alhazen, Gallileo, Snell. Leeuwnhoek, Huygens, Newton, Young, Fraunhofer, Helmholtz. The date 1040 is from Worldcat.
