Description Of Item: Blue printed paper wrappers, 245 x 170 mm, centre stapled, 111 pages, 127 black and white illustrations of the various cataract types, ink stamp for former owner Robert Augusteyn on title page.
Historical Significance: Frederick Carl Cordes MD (1892-1965) was Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California (from 1934) and Chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology (from 1936). He is noted especially for his contributions to children's cataract and a monograph on that subject. See Obit Br J Ophthalmol. 1965 Jul; 49(7): 384-385. The former owner of this book, Professor Robert Augusteyn, was noted for his research on the biochemistry of cataract and mechanisms of its formation, work that he pursued throughout his research career but especially while Director of the National Vision Research Institute of Australia from 1991 to 2001.
