He was Clinic Director 1947 - 1949, Director of Studies 1950 to 1964 and the third President of the College from 1970 to 1978. He taught as a highly respected part time teacher for over 30 years and one of the team of three who started research in the Victorian College of Optometry in 1961. He was awarded an honorary DSc degree by the University of Melbourne in 1994. John Scurry (1947- ) studied at the Prahran College of Advanced Education, graduating with a Diploma of Art and Design in 1969. In 1971 he gained a Trained Tertiary Certificate from Hawthorn Institute of Education. He has worked as a teacher of art and drawing for most of his career but he has held many solo exhibitions and his work in held in the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of NSW, many regional art galleries, universities and corporations.
