Historical Significance: This book is probably the first student text book in optometry written and published in Australia. Adcock was a Sydney optometrist described on the title page as Lecturer in External Examination of the Eye and Refraction at the Sydney Technical College. The Foreword is by W G Kett, a professional leader in the 1920s to 1950s and long time editor of the Australian Journal of Optometry. He was the brother of C W Kett, an optometrist who practised in Melbourne from about 1910 to 1950, who in 1939 was a joint signatory to the original memorandum establishing the Australian College of Optometry.
