Historical Significance: The author was an ophthalmic surgeon in New York. This book published in 1920 is an example of practice and knowledge in the early years of the 20th C. The first chapter is on the examination of the eye and includes illustrations of ophthalmoscopes of the day including non-self luminous ophthalmoscopy, oblique focal illumination of the eye with a hand held lens (pictured), a transilluminator and digital tonometry (and a Schiotz tonometer)
