Description Of Item: Red soft card cover, 127 pages, many illustrations of optical machinery, rubber stamp of 'ML Colechin Hon Sec', a staff member of the Australian Optical Company, pencilled notes on back page. Slipped in at the back are advertisements cut from the Optical Journal and Review dated 1912, 1920 and 1922. an advertising leaflet for Morris and Anderson Spectacle Makers of 309 Little Collins Street (which illustrates optical machinery including an automatic surfacing machine and a multipul (sic) rimless edger, a cutting illustrating an optical work bench made by WE Tuck of Melbourne and a cutting of an advertisment in German for optical machinery of an earlier period.
Historical Significance: The picture is from the catalogue and illustrates the machinery typically used for lens fitting in an optical workshop in the 1920 to the 1950s. This is an invaluable reference book for optical workshop machinery in the first half of the 20thC. The stamp indicates that Colechin may have been the hon secretary of an optical wholesaler association and that this book was in the association's library.
