Description Of Item: Black and white photograph, 76 x 50 cm, mounted on board, depicting the future site of the Victorian College of Optometry soon after the site was purchased on 16 th June 1956. 146a: Smaller sepia print of same image mounted on board, 25 cm x 20 cm. (Small version146 A is located on south wall Archive room)
Historical Significance: This records the appearance of the site purchased by the College in June 1956 for the future College building. The photograph is of the Cardigan street frontage. Of the buildings shown only the 2 storey terrace has been retained. The College paid a deposit of 620 pounds ($1200) for the site. See also Council minutes for May and June 1956.
