Historical Significance: A textbook written for optometrists. Skiametry is another name for retinoscopy, which was also known as skiascopy and the 'shadow test'. Cross had earlier presented views on practical skiascopy to a meeting of the Optical Society of the State of New York at Syracuse on June 2 1896, published New York 1896. There was also a self published book on dynamic skiametry, 'Dynamic skiametry in theory and practice, embracing its association with static skiametry and with those optometric methods wherein the correlation of accommodation and convergence must be considered' self published in 1911.
