Description Of Item: Old binders cloth, 1107 pp (last page missing), illustrations. There are numerous ink annotations and alterations pasted over figures, which appear to have been done about the time of publication. These changes may be MacKenzie's preparations for the 5th edition.
Historical Significance: William MacKenzie (1791-1868) was surgeon oculist in Scotland to Her Majesty (Queen Victoria), lecturer in the University of Glasgow and a surgeon in the Glasgow Eye Infirmary.This book discusses the anatomy and functional disorders of the eye as they was understood in an era before ophthalmoscopy and is representative of opthalmological knowledge and practice in the mid 19thC.
