The book is significant in being an early text by a London based eye surgeon for optometrists of the early 20th C. James Forrest MB ChB held appointments at several London hospitals. According to the preface the book was written to provide a general knowledge of eye diseases. The book was proof read by a Mr H L Taylor who is the author of books on optics and bifocals.
