Historical Significance: Richard Greeff (1862-1938) was Professor of Ophthalmology University of Berlin. He translated Ramon y Cajal's work on the structure of the vertebrate retina that had been done in 1892-93 into German This was part of the work for which Ramon y Cajal earned the Nobel Prize in 1906. Greeff was also renowed for his contribution to the pathology of the eye.
