Description Of Item: Typewritten notes in an old commercial ring binder comprising 78 leaves sometimes printed on both sides of the page, hand drawn diagrams in the text. Additional hand written notes in text. Loosely inserted at the end are about 20 cards and sheets with more hand drawn illustrations. The notes are titled on the first page 'Embryology, anatomy and phsyiology. VOA Course 1934. Lecturer H S Latimer.
Historical Significance: This item is lecturer notes for the optometry course offered by the Victorian Optical Association that lead to the Fellowship of the Association (FVOA). This was the course of training in optometry in Victoria before the foundation of the Australian College of Optometry in 1940 and the four year university-level course established by the College. H S Latimer was a Melbourne optometrist. The material illustrates the standard of optometric education prior to optometrists obtaining registration in Victoria (in 1934). See also Catalogue No 279.
