Historical Significance: Panum (1820-1885) was a Danish physiologist and pathologist. He was professor of physiology at the University of Kiel and later the University of Copenhagen. He investigated binocular vision and his name is given to Panum's area, the region around corresponding points which does not give rise to physiological diplopia. He is also known for his ground breaking studies of immunity and measles. This photocopy was probably made by Donald E Mitchell, Melbourne optometry graduate, who did his masters degree at the University of Melbourne on Panum's area in 1964 and subsequently became professor of psychology at Dalhousie University.
