Description Of Item: TWO COPIES: 300 pages with some illustrations in text. On the title page of copy 1 are two rubber stamps indicating former ownership by Wood (old established Melbourne optometry firm) and Percy Bingeman (also a first half 20thC Melbourne optometrist). Tucked in at the back is a newspaper photograph showing delegates at the Sixth Interstate Conference of Opticians (dated ca 1920)
Historical Significance: This is a practical manual on refraction with a trial set and other optometric tests and the fitting of spectacles. It includes useful illustrations of optical instruments and equipment. Pixley also wrote 'The eye, its refraction and accommodation; a brief description of the mechanical conditions which make spectacles a necessity.' 1889.
