He was President of the Ophthalmological Society of the UK 1897-9 and of the Royal College of Surgeons 1906-8. Swanzy gave the Bowman lecture in 1888 and had earlier written an an Atlas of Ophthalmoscopy 1870. This is an enlarged edition with joint authorship.
