Description Of Item: Black and white photograph 278 mm W x 172 mm D of Collins Street, Melbourne, taken in 1935 looking west with Town Hall and Manchester Unity Building on the right and on the left the facade of Kurrajong house. Postcard held by the State Library of Victoria. Modern black photo frame with a photograph of the facade of Kurrajong House included as an insert (Cat No 371). Labelled 'First location of the Victorian College of Optometry from 1940 to 1960 on the 4th floor of Kurrajong House 177 Collins Street. Collins Street 1935with Kurrajong House on the left. Historical Significance: The Australian College of Optometry was established in December 1939 to provide the first full time four year optometry course in Australia. It rented premises at the back half of the fourth floor of Kurrajong House, which it occupied until 1960 when it moved to its own premises in Carlton near the University of Melbourne.
