Historical Significance: Donald Schultz (1910-1987) was a South Australia optometrist who took a leading role in the education of optometrists in South Australia when there was a course run by SA Registration Board in conjunction with the University of Adelaide. He was also an inventive intellectual who was co-founder of the optical manufacturing company SOLA. He was a benefactor, giving large sums of money, jointly with his wife Joyce and cousin Eulalie Laubman, to Flinders University and to the National Vision Research Institute. His biography can be found in Clin Exp Optom 2004; 87: 187-190 and also on this web site under the tab 'People who made history'.Information about his wife, Joyce, also a loyal and generous supporter of the NVRI can be found in her obituary in Clin Exp Optom 1999; 82: 212-213. He was made an honorary life member of the College in 1980 and the Schulz foyer was named in his honour. He received an honorary DSc degree from Flinders University in 1986.
