Historical Significance: Dr Jack Pettigrew took up appointment as Principal Research Fellow in the National Vision Research Institute in August 1979 and was Acting Director of the NVRI from 1980 after Dr Mitchell returned to Dalhousie University. He left in 1982 to take a chair in physiology at the University of Queensland where he established the Centre for Sight, Touch and Hearing and was subsquently elected an FRS. The NVRI is a research arm of the Victorian College of Optometry
