Historical Significance: Dr Sheila Crewther worked in the National Vision Research Institute from 1979 to 1982 when she left to take up an appointment in the school of optometry at the University of NSW. She was a zoologist who had worked with Dr (later Professor) Jack Pettigrew FRS at CalTech and came with him to the NVRI. She subsequently qualified in optometry and later moved to Latrobe University. The NVRI is a research arm of the Victorian College of Optometry
