Historical Significance: Dr Shaun Collin became Professor of Marine Science at Queensland University; Dr David Vaney became Research Professor in Neuroscience at Queensland University, Dr Edwin Howell did his PhD in the NVRI, subsequently qualified in optometry and moved to private practice to become a leading proponent of behavioural optometry and adjunct professor at the University of NSW. Dr Rachel Wong moved to the USA to pursue an illustrious academic career. Professor Abbie Hughes was Director of the NVRI from 1983 - 1989.
