Historical Significance: Leo Carney graduated in optometry at the University of Melbourne in1967 and continued his studies to complete a MScOptom and a PhD at the University of Melbourne. He was appointed lecturer in the Department of Optometry of the University of Melbourne in 1976. He resigned in 1985 to take up an academic post at the Ohio State University, eventually returning to Australia to take the chair in optometry at the Queensland University of Technology.
