Historical Significance: Michael Kalloniatis graduated BScOptom at the University of Melbourne in 1981 and did his Masters degree at Melbourne under the supervision of Associate Professor Alan Johnston. He completed his PhD degree at the University of Houston in 1988 switching from an interest in low vision to neurobiological research. His post doc was at the University of Texas. He returned to Melbourne in 1991 as lecturer and left to take the chair in optometry at the University of Auckland in 2002. Subsequently he was appointed professor at the University of NSW to the lead the Eye Health Centre in that University.
