Historical Significance: Dr Robert Jacobs completed his optometry qualification at the University of Melbourne and continued his studies to complete a masters degree and a PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Barry Cole. He was lecturer in the University of Melbourne optometry department from 1980 to 1983 . He resigned to take an academic post in optometry at the University of Auckland where he became Associate Professor and served several terms as Head of Department.
