Historical Significance: Dr Robert Jacobs completed his optometry qualification at the University of Melbourne and continued his studies to complete a masters degree and a PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Barry Cole. He was lecturer in the University of Melbourne optometry department from 1980 to 1983 . He resigned to take an academic post in optometry at the University of Auckland where he became Associate Professor and served several terms as Head of Department. He is renowned for his clinical teaching and pastoral care of students.
