He is depicted in this photograph wearing his PhD robes. He obtained his PhD in 1971. He was the fifth Australian optometrist to obtain a PhD: Professor Gerald Westheimer FRS, a Sydney trained optometrist obtained his PhD at Ohio State University in 1955; Dr George Amigo did his PhD at the University of NSW completing in 1963 and Professor Barry Collin and Professor Brian Brown completed their PhDs in the Victorian College of Optometry in 1970.
