Historical Significance: Dr Kiely was associated with the Victorian College of Optometry and the Department of Optometry of the University of Melbourne in various ways. She graduated in optometry at the University of Melbourne in 1976, was Tutor in the Department 1981 to 1983, completed her PhD degree under the supervision of Dr Leo Carney in 1982, and was a Research Officer in the NVRI 1983 to 1987. She was the first woman optometrist to complete a PhD degree in Australia.
