Historical Significance: Michael Smith was the senior optometrist in the College clinic responsible for binocular vision and he provided excellent teaching and leadership in the field during his tenue. He was probably the first to instil real confidence among students and colleagues in our ability to manage binocular vision disorders and among the first to exlore new boundaries in the field. He graduated at Melbourne in 1975 and worked in the clinic from 1979 to 1984, after which he went into private practice. The picture illustrated here is taken in what was the binocular vision consulting room on the ground floor of the second Cardigan Street terrace house in the 1980s.
