Historical Significance: The emphasis in this text book is on the practical examination of the eye for the diagnosis of ocular disease and systemic disease. Conrad Berens (1889-1963) was a well respected US trained eye surgeon who worked at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1913 for his working life and lectured in the New York University Department of Opthalmology where he was Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology.
