Historical Significance: This is a treatise on the ocular muscle system from a physiological viewpoint. See Cat numbers 248, 477 and 514 for other books by this author. Atkinson was a prolific writer of didactic text books intended to educate optometrists of the early 20thC in the then relatively new art of refraction (this book on refraction, one on retinoscopy Cat No 514 and one on binocular vision Cat No 477 ) and one on the optometrists expanded role in detection of eye diseases (Cat no 248). He wrote many other books in addition on visual psychology, visual fields and functional diagnosis. He was associated with the Northern Illinois College of Optometry.
